And browsing around your blog page, I saw that you did your Thesis with Lee Smith. *The* Lee Smith, writer of Fair & Tender Ladies, one of the best books I’ve ever read. Wow! That must have been something.
Oh yes, almost 20 years ago now. That was my MFA, when I was thinking I was going to be the next great novelist. That hasn’t quite turned out. Lee was (still is– though I haven’t seen her in all these years) a great teacher, a great and fun person, very kind, very insightful, etc. Really helped me become a better teacher and writer and person.
